Save $300 on Your MD Annual Report
If you offer your employees a retirement plan, Maryland still lets you skip the $300 annual report filing fee — but only if you claim the waiver.
You qualify if you offer a 401(k), SEP, SIMPLE IRA, 403(b), 457(b), or if you participate in the MarylandSaves program. Businesses enrolled in MarylandSaves receive the waiver automatically. Everyone else needs to submit a short exemption form each year through MarylandSaves.
How to claim the waiver:
Go to the MarylandSaves website. At the top of the page, click “Claim Waiver”.
Enter your business info (name, address, FEIN, and SDAT ID).
Certify that you offer a qualified retirement plan.
Select your plan type.
Submit the form — you’ll get an email once the fee is officially waived.
After that, you can file your Annual Report (Form 1) with SDAT without paying the $300 fee.
Deadline: The exemption form must be submitted by December 31, 2025 to receive the waiver for the 2026 filing year.
It’s a simple step that can save you money every year — and if you have questions about whether your plan qualifies or how to complete the form, I’m always happy to help.
