Maryland CRN

If you’re doing business in Maryland, you may need a Combined Registration Number (CRN) to register for various state tax and insurance accounts.

What does the CRN cover?

Maryland’s Combined Registration Application (CRA) lets you register for:

  • Sales & Use Tax

  • Employer Withholding

  • Unemployment Insurance

  • Admissions & Amusement Tax

  • Tire Recycling Fee

  • Alcohol & Tobacco Taxes

  • Transportation Network Company

  • Motor Fuel Tax

  • Transient Vendor License

You can apply online through Maryland Business Express, or by paper using Form CRA.

What you’ll need:

  • A Federal EIN is required—unless you're a sole proprietor applying only for a sales & use tax license.

Heads up:

Your CRN is an 8-digit number, but don’t confuse it with your SDAT Department ID, which includes a letter followed by 8 digits. They’re not the same!
